Tant Ehrhardt Obituary

Lewis “Tant" Ehrhardt, 65, of Ehrhardt, SC, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

He leaves behind his best friend and wife, Sharon, whom he wedded at the age of 17 and stayed happily married and committed to for 49 years. He leaves behind his #1 son, Lewis Richard (Sonya) and #1 daughter ReNee E. Dilling (Chad, Sr.); his two grandchildren Lewis Zachary (fiancé, Kayla Parks) and Madison; as well as his siblings, Joyce E. Bennett (the late Cecil), Amelia E. Smith (Larry), and William Glenn (Lanette); nephews and nieces, Kristen E. Livingston (Joel), Justin (Hannah), and Austin; and several great nieces and a great nephew.

He also leaves behind his mother-in-love, Eunice Hutto; a sister-in-love, Connie Howell (Leon); niece, Teresa Gosnell (Kevin); and nephew, Will.  He also leaves behind his German Shepards, BoJack and Emma and their newborn puppies; and miniature Schnauzer, Scoot.

He was preceded in death by his parents Julian and Eleanor Ehrhardt, his older brother, Julian, Jr. “Bubba”, his brothers-in-love, Harvey Allen Smoak and Cecil Bennett; and his niece, Dodie Smith.

Tant was definitely a hero to his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was unlike any other man in the world. He could do almost anything, and if he couldn’t do something and wanted to, he would find out by asking someone or by reading about it and then doing it. He led by example. He was a man of wisdom, understanding, and compassion.

Most of all, he loved the Lord Jesus Christ and leaves a legacy of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to his family. He loved his family, friends, and rarely met a stranger. He wasn’t one to sugarcoat the truth and in love, would tell you the truth even if you didn’t want to hear it. He had a unique sense of humor and saw life as a gift to be lived fully. He was a hard worker and pursued excellence in all that he put his hand to do. He was a giver and a doer.

Tant worked at Roper, Albemarle (formerly Ethyl) and installed alarm systems until he surrendered to the Lord’s will to become a pastor.  He loved learning and was always reading a good book. He knew the importance of education and later earned his bachelor’s degree and went to seminary and earned his master’s in Christian Counseling. He pastored Boydton Baptist Church in Boydton, Virginia before returning to South Carolina to pastor Northgate Baptist Church in Orangeburg, where he pastored for almost 21 years.

He had many hobbies which included guitar, music, motorcycles, sawmill work, and woodwork.  He is already missed and will continue to be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. But, for those of us who know the Lord Jesus, we have a hope and a promise that he is with our Savior, and he is rejoicing, and we will be reunited one day. He would want you to have the assurance of your salvation as well.

Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His saints (Psalm 116.15, NKJV). And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent (John 17.3 NKJV).
