Duane Riley Cantey, 81, of Walterboro, South Carolina passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021 at his home in Walterboro. Duane was born on September 1, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina to Arthur Elliott and Sadie Jane Cantey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jean Cantey of Walterboro, his sons Duane (Diana) of Mt. Vernon, Arkansas, and Vince (Stephanie) of Shermans Dale, Pennsylvania, and his two grandsons Zach (Savannah) of Rogers, Arkansas, and Jake of West Point, New York, along with a host of other family and friends.
Duane retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service in the United States Air Force. He served in the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Georgia, Alaska, and Idaho during his service. He was a proud veteran and patriot who took great pride in his service to our country
Duane was an outdoorsman, musician, troubadour, farmer, rancher, and commercial fisherman during the years before and after his retirement. Duane and Carolyn lived a true adventure together and spent time living in Georgia, Alaska, Idaho, Arkansas, and Pennsylvania before settling back in South Carolina. Duane never met a stranger, and could entertain folks for hours with his stories and his guitar. He had a special gift, and will be missed and remembered by everyone that he touched.
Duane requested a private family gathering at his home to celebrate his life.
