Mrs. Donna Carter Fender, 75, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon, September 8, 2021, at Roper-Saint Francis in Mount Pleasant. She was the loving wife of almost forty years to the late Mr. James Fairey Fender.
Born February 1, 1946, in Ruffin, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Heyward and Lena Hutto Carter. She graduated from Bells High School where she excelled in Basketball and had also attended Columbia Commerical College. She worked for a number of years as a switchboard operator with J. P. Stevens in Walterboro before beginning as a bookkeeper with Farmers and Merchants Bank where she eventually retired as a customer service representative. She was a longtime member of Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro. Donna was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks as well as a Duke Basketball fan.
Surviving are: two daughters, Melanie Easterlin Ritter and her husband Joey of Walterboro and Sonya Leigh Benton and her husband Henry of Walterboro; a brother, Dr. Jimmy M. Carter of Dothan, Alabama; four grandchildren, The Reverend Justin Ritter of Holly Hill, Jessica Leigh Grubb (Adam) of Walterboro, Jarrett Ritter (Jane) of Virginia Beach, and Sarah Benton (Jordan) of Walterboro; and four great grandchildren, Bryson Grimes, Kaylee Neuroth, Jase Barnett, and Emma Grubb. She is also survived by her beloved second mother, Vivian McFadden and her chocolate lab, “Bella”.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, September 11, 2021, from Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church, 126 Doctor’s Creek Road, Walterboro. The Reverend Justin Ritter officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
