James Lindsay Banfield Obituary

James Lindsay Banfield, 72, of Bamberg, SC, died Feb. 13, 2019, after an extended illness. He was born in Erie, Pa on November 18, 1946 to James E. Banfield and Elaine Banfield. James formerly lived in Ohio, Las Vegas, NV, and Santa Rosa, CA before settling in SC with his wife Martha Clayton Banfield. A Vietnam Era US Navy Veteran, he served on the USS Firedrake. Being a singer/songwriter/recording artist, James served the Lord for many years in music ministry, and also as a Bible Teacher.

 

He is survived by his wife Martha Clayton Banfield, a daughter, Michelle Lynne (Scott) Robison of Ohio, four siblings, Ray Banfield (Becky), Kathy Cornell, Harold Banfield, and Lois; a step-daughter April (Chris) Campbell of Bamberg, SC, step son Michael Oglesby (Samantha) of Bamberg, SC, and four grandchildren, Michaelle Campbell, John Campbell, Austin and Alex Oglesby all of Bamberg, SC.

 

The family has asked that all memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following “Veterans Flag Project” (Bamberg, SC) in which he was enthusiastically involved with other area Veterans. Donations can be sent to Bamberg Flag Project, PO Box 1178, Bamberg, SC 29003.  He was proud to be known as an American Patriot and Veteran. In 2018 James was also one of four recipients of a “Quilts of Valor” at the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the new Veterans Walkway in Bamberg, SC. He was also given the honor of carrying the POW flag which was raised along with the American Flag and SC State Flag at the site of the three flags which now proudly fly over Bamberg. SC.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 23, 2019, from the graveside at Ehrhardt Cemetery with Military Honors.
