Arlington "Chief" Sanford, age 95, died Friday, April 19, 2019 surrounded by his children at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Mr. Sanford was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Frances Sanford.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Hilton and her husband Mark, his son Robert Sanford, his son William Sanford and his wife Nancy, along with seven grandchildren
Chief grew up in Danbury, CT graduating high school in June 1942 and enlisting in the Navy the month before graduation.
Chief is a veteran of WWII where he served on the LST307. He participated in The North African Campaign as well as the Invasion of Sicily and Normandy.
After retiring from the Navy in 1962, he went to work for the United States Air Force Security Services overseas for 6 years. He returned to the States and then worked for Strategic Air Command in Westover, MA as well as FEMA for 21 years.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a Life Member of 60 years of Walhalla Lodge No. 66 – Ancient Free Masons, now part of Mariner Lodge No. 2.
A private interment will be at Beaufort National Cemetery
