Thomas Dewey Cloud

Thomas Dewey Cloud, 79, of Ruffin, South Carolina, passed away on April 2, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Roy N. Cloud and Etheline Cloud Sipple, and his siblings, Roy Cloud, Billy Cloud, and Ray Cloud.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Phelps Cloud, his three children, Laura C. Hayes (Michael), Roy N. Cloud, and Cynthia C. Jeffrey (Stephen), his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Thomas was born in Hobbs Island, Alabama on October 2, 1944.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961 until 1963.  He served in the reserves until 1967.  He then worked in the oil fields in Texas and California until he moved to Port Royal, SC to pursue law enforcement.  He graduated from Trident Technical College in 1976 with a degree in Criminal Justice.  He worked in law enforcement for 27 years in various capacities from deputy sheriff, city police, DMV license examiner to investigator of fraudulent licenses. After retirement, he loved to recount the memories of his days on the road as an officer.  

Thomas loved camping, working in the yard and woodworking.  He also loved to garden and had a green thumb for growing vegetables.  In his later years, for a short stint, he liked to experiment with recipes and cook for his family.
