Freddie Woods

Mr. Freddie Lamar Woods, Sr., 93, of Jacksonboro, entered into eternal rest Monday evening, April 8, 2024, at Colleton Medical Center.  He was the husband of the late Mary Ann Anderson-Walsh Woods.

Born October 18, 1930, in Jasper County, he was the son of the late Wesley Woods and Ira Ginn Woods.  He served his country in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division.  He was a retired marine machinist from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.  He was a devoted and faithful member of Jacksonboro Baptist Church.

Mr. Freddie was patient, kind, giving, funny, and simply one of the finest men ever.  In 1978, he began a life of sobriety and lived everyday from then helping others find sobriety and a better way of life.  Every night, until he passed away, he prayed for his family and always ended with the serenity prayer.  He was a member of the Colleton County Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse.  Mr. Freddie was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing, and especially loved spending time at the Edisto River with family and friends.  He enjoyed teaching his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and anyone else that wanted to learn how to waterski.  He was a fabulous cook and loved cooking for everyone.  After the love of his life passed away in 2014, he and his daughters began “Cousins Camp”.  This was held every summer at his house for all of his great grands, and eventually their friends, to come hang out, spend time with each other, and spend time on the river. 

Surviving are: his children, Janet Waters and her husband Ricky of North Augusta, Deborah Woods Woods and her husband Joe of Charleston, and Lamar Woods and his wife Teri of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Aaron Thompson, Brien Word (Lauren), Jeremy Goettee (Gina), and William Word; great grandchildren, Lauren Goettee, Adashia Goettee, Ashley Goettee, Marissa Goettee, Liam Word, Caedman Word, Callum Word, and Sera Morris; and great great grandchild, Zhuri McCoy.  He is also survived by his sisters, Sarah Mallard of Ladys Island and Jackie Smith of Marietta, Georgia; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kimberly Sinclair and great niece, Jordan Vincent; and many others that called him “Uncle Freddie”.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Collins Woods, Harrison Woods, and Monty Woods; and sisters, Evelyn Dobson and Mary Weaver.

Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, April 13, 2024, at Jacksonboro Baptist Church, 14749 Charleston Highway, Jacksonboro.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
