Debi Price Obituary

Ms. Debi Nicole Price, 42, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest, Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2024, at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

She made her grand entrance into this world on November 8, 1981, at St. Frances Xavier Hospital in Downtown Charleston and was the daughter of Casey Price and Wanda Reynolds Price. At an early age she was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a form of Brittle Bone Disease.  This diagnosis never defined or restricted Debi’s life as she climbed mountains and overcame any obstacle she faced.  Debi was the definition of determination and inspiration. She was always full of life, joy, and love and lived every moment to its fullest.

Debi graduated from Walterboro High School, Class of 2000.  She was a part of one of the last classes of the Walterboro Bulldogs before WHS became Colleton County High School.  She graduated 3rd in her class, which allowed her the distinct honor of having the Graduation Prayer.  During her years at WHS, she was a member of the WHS Singers as well as the National Honor Society.  Following high school, Debi attended USC-Salkehatchie Campus and received her Associate of Science Degree.  In 2003, she was the USC Salk Outstanding Student.  She then continued her education at The University of South Carolina-Columbia Campus where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree and then furthered her education by receiving her Master’s plus 30 in Early Elementary Education, specializing in Special Education.

While receiving her education, Debi started with the Colleton County School District as a substitute teacher. Once accredited, she became a Special Education Teacher for third, fourth, and fifth grades at Forest Hills Elementary School.  Debi always attributed her dear friend, Cindy Socha Riley, for first giving her the opportunity to have the career of her dreams.  During her career, Debi touched the lives of many students, parents and fellow educators.  While teaching, she received many accolades such as Forest Hills Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2012 and Forest Hills Teacher of the Year in 2016.

Debi also possessed a deep faith and love for her Lord.  Growing up, she attended her old family church, Evergreen Christian Church where she was active in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  She eventually moved her membership to Grace Advent Christian Church, where she was a faithful and devoted member.

There was no truer Carolina Gamecock fan than Debi Price.  She was an active member of the Gamecock Club and went for 25 years without missing a single home football game.  She enjoyed attending concerts, spending her summers in Myrtle Beach, and enjoyed being a DJ for parties and events.  She was the namesake of her family’s business, Debi’s Florist, in Walterboro, operated by her mom and MeMa, Barbara.  Debi and many of her friends worked at the shop on holidays and special occasions.  Most of all, Debi loved her family and friends and cherished spending time with them.  She always supported each one by attending sporting events, school or church functions, or anything they were involved with.  In 2020, she was voted the Best Teacher in Colleton County by the Press and Standards Best of the Best Contest and won that for numerous years.

Surviving are: her parents, Casey and Wanda Price of Walterboro; and “her boy”, Charlie Walker, who was the light of her life, and they became the Price Family of Four.  She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Rally Reynolds (Sami), Cherry Douglas (Tony), Corky Price (Stacey), and Charles Moseley; great aunt and uncle, Philip and Ernestine Brown; her cousins that she loved dearly, Meagan who was “her person” (Brian), Laura (Logan), Christy (Justin), Allie (Madison), Corey, Dustin, Kalyn (Patrick), Cameron (Jimbo), Carson (Josh), Emma, Elise (Jake), Griffin, Cayson, Charlie, Brodie, Penn, Henley, Brantleigh, Wills, and Presley; and her best friends that she loved as sisters, Pam Butler Brownlee (Jimmy) and Jennifer Breland Sumner (Rickey).

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Marshall and Barbara Reynolds; paternal grandparents, Bill and Juanita Price; and two aunts, Coty Price Moseley and Debi Reynolds.
