May 19, 1930 ~ June 7, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Mr. Thomas Jefferson Roberts, affectionately known by all as “T.J.”, age 87, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday morning, June 7, 2017, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, June 10, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Daryl Hunt and The Reverend Daniel Cooper officiating.  Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.

 

Born May 19, 1930, in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Charlie H. Roberts and the late Lilly Headden Roberts.  He served in the United States National Guard and was the founding owner of Roberts Painting Contractors in Walterboro.  T.J. possessed a strong work ethic, and will be forever remembered for the devotion he had to his business and his commitment to excellence.   He was an outdoorsman, who dearly loved fishing, having this past fall caught an eleven pound Large Mouth Bass in his pond which was a well-known icon to locals in our community.  He enjoyed the company of others and adored seeing young children fishing in his pond.  A charter member, he was a vital part of the founding and building of Living Word Outreach Ministries in Walterboro, T.J. dearly love the Lord with his entire heart and his service to God was ultimate in his life.   He enjoyed woodworking and also had a love of classic cars and hotrods, having recently restored a 1987 El Camino.    He will always be known for his generous and giving spirit, helping anyone in any way possible. 

 

Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Linda Bridgers Roberts; five children, Sherry Roberts Ghostlaw, Marshall C. Roberts and his wife Rachel, Mark A. Roberts, Rodger Kim Roberts, and Matthew Kevin Roberts all of Walterboro; a brother, Tex Roberts and his wife Lynn of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Shane Roberts, Charles Cook, Timmy Reeves, Chasity McMillan, Becky Clore; seventeen great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Roberts of Cottageville, and Linda’s two children, Mike and Dawn. He is also survived by a dear friend, Gerald E. Smoak; and his beloved German Sheppard, Grace.    He was preceded in death by a son, Tony J. Roberts; a grandson, Shawn Roberts, and his first wife, Marion E. “Betty” Roberts. 

 

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so desire, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Living Word Outreach Ministries, 1705 Barracada Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
