Mrs. Clara Wright Cook, afftectionately known by all as “Susie”, age 73, entered into rest Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Ruffin while under the care of Amedysis Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 6 o’clock Monday evening, June 19, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony until 8 o’clock that evening.
Born June 5, 1944, in Roanoke, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Wright and the late Clara Goldsmith Wright. She was employed as a secretary for a number of years with Mitchell Construction in Walterboro; retired from the Colleton County Tax Assessors Office; and worked faithully alongside her husband in the family business, C. C. and Company in Ruffin. She was a member of Ruffin Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She loved gardening, collecting antiques and hummingbirds and will aways be remembered for her talent with crocheting and basketweaving.
Surviving are: her husband of thirty-six years, Charles E. Cook; seven children, Rick Aker (Leslie Dixon) of Maryland, Kenneth Aker (Vicki Carry) of North Carolina, David Stockman (Lorrie) of Ruffin, Tammy Welch (James) of Ruffin, Shannon Cook (Ashleigh) of Walterboro, Christine Tores of Ridgeland, and Samantha Cook of Smoaks; nineteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Amedysis Hospice, 305 Robertson Bouelvard, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
