Mr. Samuel Ernest Dixon, Jr., known by many as “Teddy”, age 81, entered into rest surrounded by his loving family Sunday morning, May 15, 2016, at his home in Lodge while under the care of Regency Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, May 18, 2016, from Ashton Baptist Church, 5156 Willow Swamp Road, Lodge. The Reverend Dan Folge and The Reverend Wayne Clark officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Ashton Cemetery.
He was born July 4, 1934 in Georgia, and served our country faithfully as a Sergeant Frist Class in the Georgia National Guard with Battery B 230th Armored Field Artillery. He was the owner of Crane and Rigging in Charleston, a heavy equipment company, which was involved with projects at Medical University of South Carolina, the building of the Old Cooper River Bridge, and the steeple of Saint Phillip’s Cathedral in Charleston. Teddy dearly loved the Lord. He was a member of Ashton Baptist Church, and was licensed to Preach the Gospel and Share his Gifts with others through his involvement with Dexter Baptist Church in Oxford, North Carolina. Teddy was always willing to share his testimony with others and particularly enjoyed visiting area nursing homes and assisted livings. He especially loved children and had a great passion for their care and wellbeing. He was an avid supporter of the Saint Jude’s and Shriners Children’s Hospitals and the Wounded Worrier Project and was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited and the National Wildlife Federation.
Surviving are: his loving wife, Mrs. Connie Polk Dixon; six daughters and a son to include Ted Dixon (Cindy) and Nickie Donnelly (Craig); and eight grandchildren to include Reagen, Oscar, Andrea, Stephen, Andy, and Kelsey; as well as several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Cayce Groves.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital, 171 Ashley Ave, Charleston, SC 29425.
