Sally Sweeney

Mrs. Sally Sweeney, entered into rest eternal Wednesday morning, January 3, 2018, at her home in Varnville.   She was the wife of the late Mr. Dan Sweeney for 25 years.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 12 o’clock Saturday afternoon, January 6, 2018, from Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 703 5th Street East, Hampton.  Fr. Norbert officiating.  The Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Hampton Cemetery, Holly Street, Hampton.

She was born in 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA to James and Leora Donavan Shannon. Sally was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, studied at Duke University and received a Master’s degree from The University of South Carolina.  .  She taught and was the librarian at Hampton Elementary School& Ben Hazelfor many years.  She loved books and passed her love of reading to many students.

She is survived by her daughter Ann (Jim Marshall), sons Jim (Maricela Sweeney), Jack (Denise Sweeney) and Dan (Lisa Sweeney), grandchildren, Christy Sweeney Bacon, Dan Sweeney, John Sweeney, Will Marshall, Jennifer Sweeney Syno, Kathleen Marshall, Michael Sweeney, Erin Marshall, Jack Sweeney, Tom Sweeney & Liam Sweeney, and great grandchildren  Connor, Bryson, & Ashyn Bacon,  Braedon Syno, Nathan Rutlen, Natalie Sweeney, & RJ Sweeney

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation this Friday evening from 5  o’clock until 7:30 o’clock, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and a prayer vigil 4:30 pm at THE BRICE W.
