Ruby Bishop

Mrs. Ruby Martin Bishop, age 88, of Canadays, entered into eternal rest Saturday evening, June 10, 2017, at Colleton Medical Center.  She was the wife of the late William Huston Bishop, Jr. for 64 years.

Funeral services will be conducted 5 o’clock Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   Interment will follow in Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery, Forks Road, Islandton.

Born June 1, 1929 in Varnville, SC and was a daughter of the late Joseph Henry Martin and Anna Mills Martin.  She was a faithful member of Candays First Baptist Church, and was a former Sunday School Teacher. She worked for EconoLodge for 10 years and then enjoyed taking care of elderly people in their home when she was able.  Mrs. Ruby was a devoted Christian woman and longstanding member of her beloved community and loved helping anyone that she could.  She enjoyed sewing and working with crafts and especially working with her flowers and gardening.  Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who centered her life around her family and serving her Lord.

Surviving are: her son, Christopher William Bishop and his wife Robin of Canadys; grandchildren, Joseph Huston Bishop of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Christopher William Bishop, Jr. of Denver, Colorado and his wife Sonya of Canadys, December Lynn Russo and her husband Timothy of Texas, and Amanda Davidson of Walterboro; great grandchildren, Emily, Kira, Tristan, Marley, Declan, Sophia, and William; sister, Sadie Cotton of Georgia; sisters-in-law, Mavis Bishop of Walterboro and Laverne Bishop of Hampton; cousins, Doris Padgett, Joseph Padgett, and Evelyn Padgett, all of Orlando, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Henry Martin.
