Murry E. Bishop

October 18, 1927 ~ September 22, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Mr. Murry E. Bishop, age 88, entered into rest early Thursday morning, September 22, 2016, while surrounded by his loving family in his daughter’s home in the Forest Hills Subdivision of Walterboro.  He was the husband of the late Mrs. Rosine Johns Bishop.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 2:30pm Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2016, from First Baptist Church of Walterboro, 124 South Memorial Avenue, Walterboro.   The Reverend Philip McNeal and The Reverend Ben Barnett officiating.   Interment will follow in Carter’s Ford Baptist Churchyard, Lodge Highway, Lodge. 

 

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1 o’clock that afternoon in the sanctuary of The First Baptist Church of Waterboro.

 

Born October 18, 1927, in Lodge, South Carolina, he was raised in Bamberg, a son of the late A. E. Bishop and the late Belle Polk Bishop Mouzon.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy and was a retired agent from Durham Life Insurance Company.  He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro where he formerly served on the Deacon Board and as Chairman of the Ushers and for several years had been in faithful attendance at Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro.   Murry was a familiar face and well known icon in his beloved community.  In earlier years, he was active in many aspects and groups within Walterboro and was a charter member of the Walterboro Civitians Club.  He was an outdoorsman, who dearly loved hunting and fishing. 

 

Surviving are: his three daughters, Jackie Pye and her husband Morris of Green Pond, Bobbie McLaine and her husband Joey of Walterboro, and Jean Burden and her husband Dan of Conway; a brother, J.B. Bishop of Blythewood; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by a brother, H. Dean Bishop. 

 

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: First Baptist Church of Walterboro, 124 South Memorial Avenue, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, Bethel United Methodist Church, 355 Hampton Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
