Master Chief Robert George Wirth, II

Master Chief Robert George Wirth, II, United States Navy (Ret.), affectionately known by many as “Country” age 64, of Round O, entered into rest Sunday morning, October 16, 2016, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. 

 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Thursday morning, October 20, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment with full military honors and masonic rites  will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

 

Born October 17, 1951, in Wilmington, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert Wirth and the late Helen Gmytruk Wirth.  He served our country faithfully for twenty-two years in the United States Navy, having seen action during the Vietnam Era and serving assignments aboard Nuclear Submarines, retiring with the rank of Master Chief.  He was currently a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in St. George.  He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Round O, where he formerly served as a Deacon.  He was a Master Mason holding his membership at Bethlehem Masonic Lodge No. 338 – Ancient Free Masons, where he had been active in many aspects of the Craft’s work.  He was a true outdoorsman who dearly loved fishing and hunting.  He also enjoyed cooking and had fashioned his own “World Famous” secret, ever-changing barbeque sauce. 

 

Surviving are: his wife of forty-five years, Mrs. Linda Hassell Wirth; three children, Corina Lynn Hauber and her husband Michael Christopher of Rebecca, Georgia, Jason Paul Wirth and his wife Tricia Rechelle of Summerville, and Kristin Dawn Stark and her husband Gregory Neil of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee; two sisters, Cecelia Hardin and her husband Tony and Barbara Wells and her husband Freddie all of Rocky Point, North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Thaddeus Paul Stark, Wyatt Austin Stark, Jooniper Jolene Wirth, and Torrin Levi Wirth.  There are many nieces and nephews that also survive. 

 

Flowers will be accepted or for those that so desire, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following:  Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, Bethlehem Masonic Lodge, 13819 Round O Road, Round O, South Carolina 29474.
