Biography

Mrs. Marjorie Matthews Belger, 84, of Lightsey Street Extension, Hampton, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 26, 2011. She was the widow of Raymond A. Belger, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Crocketville Cemetery.

Mrs. Belger was born March 11, 1927 in the Crocketville Community and was a daughter of the late Ellison C. Matthews and Leola Smith Matthews. She was a retired employee of Hampton County Department of Social Services. She was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church. Mrs. Belger graduated as the Salutatorian of the Class of 1944 from Hampton High School. She loved needlework, working with her hands and her flowers, but more importantly will be remembered for the love she had for her family.

Surviving are: her children, Larry Belger and his wife Judy of Allendale and Ramona Phillips of Hampton; grandchildren, Allison Gleaton, Stephanie Taylor, Brent Phillips, Raven Brown, Ryan Belger, Heather Belger and Rhett Belger; and great grandchildren, Noah Taylor, Jackson Phillips, Mason Taylor, Chandler Brown, Ashley Phillips, Boyd Gleaton, Emory Owens and Katie Owens. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Belger and a brother, Ottis Matthews.
