Marion Caldwell

Mr. Marion Edison Caldwell, Jr., a beloved educator of Colleton County, age 69, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015, following a courageous battle with liver disease at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, April 4, 2015, from the graveside at Carter’s Ford Baptist Churchyard, Lodge Highway, Lodge.    The family will receive friends prior to the service at the cemetery.

 

Born November 25, 1946,  a native of Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Marion Edison Caldwell, Sr. and the late Sadie Dopson Caldwell.   Marion loved children and enjoyed instilling values, education, and responsibility into the countless lives he touched throughout the thirty-five years he worked with the Colleton County School System.  For many years, he was the Principal of Bells Elementary before retiring as the Assistant Principal of Forest Hills Elementary.   Marion was also an entrepreneur and astute businessman, having been involved in many business ventures to include restaurant, hospitality, and real-estate.  Among his favorite pastimes in life was traveling in his beloved m otorhome as well as playing the piano of which he was an extremely accomplished musician.

 

Surviving are: his companion and faithful friend, Franklin Benjamin Stone; a sister, Laura Hackney and her husband Trez Hackney of Lake Murray; an aunt; Frances Bennett Caldwell of Walterboro; and two nephews whom Marion loved as his own sons, Buddy and Curtis Calvert.  He is also survived by his former wife, Mrs. Harriet Warren Caldwell and a host of beloved cousins to include, Judy Dopson Moore and her husband Wayne of Islandton.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Halmon Caldwell; and a sister, Frances Caldwell Calvert.
