Mrs. Karen Sue Campbell Gross, 74, of Ruffin, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at Colleton Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held 11 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Ruffin Baptist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Karen was born July 30, 1941 in Summersville, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gross; her son, John Gregory Watson; her mother, Maxine Stites; step-father, John T. Stites; and her father, Vernon Campbell. She is survived by her son, Brian Watson and his wife Jeni; granddaughter, Brittny Watson; great grandson, Mason; grandson, Eric Watson and his wife Samantha; and great granddaughters, Gianna and Grace. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Benson; nieces, Whitney Settlemier and Meredith Hills; and many friends across the US.
Karen developed a life-long love of horses at an early age in Missouri and continued for her 29 years in South Carolina. Her equine career included years of riding instruction, horse training, boarding, showing and trail riding. She had an abiding love of all animals. Her last job before retirement was at the Forest Circle Home, where she worked for many years. Prior to that, she had many jobs that included being a bus driver in Pennsylvania.
