James N. Farish, Sr.

Mr. James Neal Farish, Sr., 79, entered into rest Sunday evening, January 31, 2016, while surrounded by his loving family at his home in Hendersonville.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 3:30pm Tuesday afternoon, February 2, 2016, from Black Creek Baptist Church, 4931 Black Creek Road, Walterboro.  The Reverend Scott Hanna officiating.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.

 

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 2 o’clock that afternoon in the church sanctuary. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Black Creek Baptist Church, care of Mrs. Joyce Stynchcomb, 1837 Edward Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. 

 

Born November 6, 1936, in Kittery, Maine, he was a son of the late George Linwood Farish and the late Marjorie Evans Farish.  Mr. James served our country in the South Carolina National Guard.  He dedicated his life and career to his work and was well known for his strong work ethic as well as his passion for safety and correctness.  He retired as a State Meat Inspector through the South Carolina Meat and Poultry Inspection Department at Clemson University.  He was also the founder and owner of Farish Deer Processing in Hendersonville, which made him a well-known icon throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina for his quality of work.

 

He was a longtime member of Black Creek Baptist Church where he was active in many aspects of the church’s work.  He was faithful and dedicated to his beloved church, having served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and longtime member of the Cemetery Committee.   He was truly an animal lover; especially caring for his cows which along with farming became his greatest hobby in the past few years.    

 

Surviving are: his wife of fifty-seven years, Mrs. Barbara Thompson Farish; two sons, James Neal Farish, Jr. and his wife Judy of Hendersonville and John Bruce Farish and his wife Suay of Savannah, Georgia; a daughter, Lisa Farish Smith and her husband Michael of Hendersonville; and two sisters, Nancy Lott of Givhans and Louise Phillips of Charleston.  There are seven grandchildren as well as seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild whom James and Barbara adored and spent much of their time with.   He was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Brooks Farish; and three brothers, George Farish, Jr., Johnny Farish, and Charles Farish.
