Born November 25, 1936, a native of Smoaks, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Walter Dewie Lyons and the late Susie Harriett Myers Lyons.   Brother Howard was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and his fellow man.  One of his greatest accomplishments and passions in life was the ministry which he took into jails to share his witness and the plan of salvation with others.  He was the retired owner and operator of Lyons Trucking Company which he operated with a strong work ethic for many years.  He was a faithful member of Welch Creek Baptist Church, where over the years he has been active in many aspects of the church’s work.  An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing the fresh water creeks of Colleton and Bamberg Counties and he was a gardener, always avid about spending time in his garden and cultivating a crop which he truly cherished sharing his harvest with others.

Surviving are: his wife, the love of his life for fifty-nine years, Mrs. Alice Bishop Lyons; two sons, Timothy Terrell Lyons (Lynn) of Olar and Johnny Marsh Lyons (Theresa) of Bamberg; a brother, Walter M. Lyons; and three sisters, Lenora Lyons Folk, Emmie Sue Lyons Hodges, and Nancy Lyons Smith.  There are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren that also survive.  He was preceded in death by six brothers, Bobby D. Lyons, George M. Lyons, Wilford W. Lyons, Dowling Lyons, Calvin Lyons, and Joe Lyons; and a sister, Gloria Lyons Bhagchandani.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Welch Creek Baptist Church, 536 Welch Creek Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
