Mrs. Edith Benton Taylor, 89, of West Ashley, entered into eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2015, at the Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro. She was the loving wife of forty-two years to the late Mr. Theodore Stokes Taylor, Sr. at the time of his death in 1998.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 Friday afternoon, May 8, 2015, from the graveside at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, (Hwy 61) Charleston, South Carolina. The Reverend Rodney Lyons officiating.
Born June 16, 1925, a native of Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Frank Benton and the late Angie Proveax Benton. Edith loved her family and dearly loved children. She was an avid gardener.
Surviving are: four children, Roger Beach and his wife Christy of Walterboro, Marion Taylor and his wife Carol of Cottageville, Cindy Taylor Shanks of Charleston, and Theodore Stokes Taylor, Jr. of Summerville. There are nine grandchildren, Robert Beach, Gaston Roger Beach, Jimmy Beach, Jennifer Beach Hughes, J. R. Beach, Tonya Clark, Teague Jones, James Taylor Shanks, and Rachel Taylor; and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gaston H. Beach, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to the following: Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Research Hospital, 169 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, South Carolina 29425; or to, Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
