Mrs. Betty Craven Parrish, 75, of Orangeburg, a longtime resident of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday morning, May 24, 2016, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. She was the loving wife of the late Mr. Thomas A. Parrish.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 o’clock Friday afternoon, May 27, 2016, in Bethel Baptist Church, Sydneys Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in the church sanctuary.
Born October 10, 1940, in Walterboro, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Inez Evans Craven. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and dedicated her life to helping others though her career and love for others; having worked at Oakwood Nursing Home in Walterboro. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Walterboro where she was active in many aspects of the church’s work. At her church, she served as the Women’s Missionary Union Director; was a Sunday School Teacher, and was also Chairperson of the Adult Missionary Group. She was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks – Lodge No. 1988 in Walterboro and the former Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge.
Surviving are: three daughters, Angel Dowd of Nashville, Tennessee, Penny Martin (David) of Orangeburg, and Tommie Eklund (Hal) of Orangeburg; three brothers, Jackie D. Craven, Jr. of Walterboro, Carl Eugene Craven, Sr. of Green Pond, and Bobby Lee Craven of Hendersonville; and two sisters, Francis Steiner of Branchville and Peggy Bailey of Walterboro; her grandchildren, Christopher Martin (Michelle Meadows), Stacey Martin, Elizabeth Coleman (Jordan), Derek Dowd, Drew Dowd (Taylor), Morgan Hathaway (Alden “Tripp”), Kassidy Mattingly (Christopher), and Danielle Milford (Korey); and her great grandchildren, Britton Vaughn, John Thomas Martin, Danica Martin, Katlyn Roberts, Brianna Martin, Jase Milford, Hampton Hathaway, and Joshua Coleman. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn P. Priester; and a sister, Christine Bryan.
